TODD FRANCIS

ORIGINAL CHARCOAL WORKS

"Rooting For The Underdog" - Habitat loss, population control, expansion and a need to control that which is wild...its all there, it all comes together into one fiery mess.

"Thanks A Lot" - Showing two of our most dignified apex predators being humiliated and forced into unforeseen compromise was the goal here.  Its a scene of embarrassing failure in the face of the selfishness of man.

"Great, Who Gave Them Fire?" -  Its all about the frenzy, the fury and the blur when anger and misplaced frustration bubble over, where restrictions become our easiest target and our lowest common denominator.

Charcoal on paper, 2015, 71.75" x 60”

"Aint It Fun" -  Here in Los Angeles, the mountain lions have to sprint across freeways to hunt, breed and succeed.  Their ranges narrowed, their populations poisoned and stressed, its not so much what could happen but more the dark pleasure of what we might guiltily enjoy watching take place.

"Straight Outta Newfoundland" - Its almost a variation of the late 70's Oi! band punk anthems, where the marginalized rise up to confront their oppressor.  In this case, its the polar bears who've lost their land and their way of life, and they're fed up.
